JONES MMA FIGHT BEGINS
Tito Jones is set to once again start to the MMA career in Michigan on Friday. He is part of the 14-fight “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” card at the Palace of Auburn Hills (Mich.) where he will compete in the bantamweight division, or 135 pounds. This is the Bay County native’s first fight since Oct. 30, 2009, when he recorded a unanimous decision in an event in Japan.
Jones faces Cody Stevens, who is 6-1 with three straight victories. Stevens has stopped his opponents three times by submission and twice by technical knockout (referee stoppage). Stevens, nicknamed “The Wolverine” and from Mansfield, Ohio, last fought Oct. 9, 2010.
Jones is 7-3 with wins in three of his last five fights. The winning decision in Japan over Tenkei Oda came five months after he competed and lost to Bao Quach in a Strikeforce event that was televised on Showtime. Jones has recorded four decisions, two TKOs and one submission win while falling in each of his three defeats by decision.
